Christmas Spirit

December:

Christmas Spirit

It’s a cold, dark time, but the fairy lights are glowing
And the roasted chestnuts warming, and it’s lighter when it’s snowing
On the people who are swarming, seeking inspiration
For that gift for one he loves, and it seems like the whole nation,
Wrapped in fur and gloves and scarves, is stressed to hell or floating
On a cloud of Christmas spirit.

Well pass me that Christmas spirit and we’ll drink the bottle dry.

Merry Christmas to you, I wish you happiness and fun.
Let’s drink that Christmas spirit. Merry Christmas everyone.

The orchestra is wearing silly Santa beards
As their lips stick to their trombones, and no-one thinks it’s weird.
Fingers freezing to the bone, icicles on bassoons,
And the passers by they smile – memories in those tunes,
They warm your heart a while, and do you hum along,
Swept up in Christmas Spirit?

Well pass me that Christmas spirit and we’ll drink the bottle dry.

Merry Christmas to you, I wish you happiness and fun.
Let’s drink that Christmas spirit. Merry Christmas everyone.

Thanks for yet another year, now it’s gifts and games and food.
Snaps and wine, cognac and beer to get us in the mood.
The greatest celebration – someone begins to sing.
